The capital
Zakynthos Town
The compact capital suits visitors who prefer harbour promenades, squares, churches, shopping streets and local evening life to a self-contained resort. Solomos Square and Saint Mark's Square form the cultural core, while many public bus routes begin in town.
The compromise is the lack of a resort beach at the centre. Swimming days require transport, and central traffic can feel busy. Stay for urban character and dining variety, or visit in late afternoon for a walk that continues into dinner. The Zakynthos Town guide covers the capital in greater depth.
